CITATION – Category: Courses
Urban regeneration, urban morphology and contemporary settlement patterns
Our proposal promotes a redevelopment project that aims to unify two rather different urban fabrics of the city. In Nanjing, in fact, the old and the new mix, making it an ideal place to study how tradition and progress coexist. Precisely for this reason, the project is called “Inter-Stitium, Standing in between”. The interstitium is a contiguous fluid-filled space existing between a structural barrier and internal structures. From aerial pictures of the site it is clearly visible how the tissue originated from the existing buildings follows a very different inclination creating a void unable to link these two different languages. Creating a design based on longitudinal linear buildings made it possible to give this sense of continuity that was originally lacking in the area.
