Nomadic Life

The evolution of contemporary lifestyles towards instability seems the result of both the pressure of ongoing transformations and the attraction they exert. On the one hand, as Jeremy Rifkin already pointed out a couple of decades ago, capitalism is transforming ownership into access to services, things into experiences. But, on the other hand, this is precisely a scenario the anticapitalistic left strived for, as a modern outcome of freedom (from the constraints of place, family, religion, gender...) modernization was expected to deliver. The Covid-19 emergency, and the 'remote presence' it asked for, further accelerated this trend, disrupting the living/working divide and giving way to a number of possible ways to inhabit the gap. Everything is thus adapting to the new nomads and the hotel has become accordingly the main reference to translate their needs and desires into architectural answers, as some successful co-living and co-working solutions are patently showing. This studio will probe therefore the potential of the hotel as an ever-evolving typology. It will do it in a specific location of Turin, already scheduled to house a hotel soon.
