Regenerating the former postal sorting center area on Via Claudio Monteverdi in Turin, Italy.
The topic of the Atelier concerns the transformation of an urban area consistent with the territorial context ─ post-industrial, infrastructural, service area ─ to be interpreted as an opportunity for the regeneration of a broader web of public and private spaces and services within the city. The design process will be built from a critical interpretation of the area's morphological, spatial, and environmental conditions, and a mapping of existing practices in its public and private spaces to identify criticalities and latent potentials in close relation to the surrounding context. The Former Poste e Telecomunicazioni is a pole of excellence of the last phase of industrialization and service in the 1970s. It is a typologically exceptional site ─ with the metal structure ─ and strategic from the urban and territorial point of view, decommissioned since 2009 and recently reclaimed, to be considered between preservation and its replacement, original public use, and opportunity for reuse in urban transformation.
